OK, so Sacramento isn’t really in Silicon Valley…but I was on the road, and this place is worth writing about.
I don’t know much about Sacramento, and I was recommended to 2 burger places. The Squeeze In, and Nationwide Freezer Meats. Well Squeeze In closed at 6pm, so I went with Nationwide.
The place has a very old-school/blue collar vibe too it.
TASTE – Outstanding. This is the basics of how a great burger should be made. There are no frills, but the execution and ingredients are good. Score:54
SELECTION – They do things pretty basic. Beers, wines and shakes are available. The did seem to have quite a few different “specials” written on different pieces of paper posted on the wall, in addition to the main menu. Score:8
CREATIVITY/X-FACTOR – Not much for creativity. A+ for execution. The fries are the best fries I have EVER had. They did have quite a few creative things on the menu that I didn’t order. Score:9
RESTAURANT – I’ll be honest, the ordering process at Nationwide threw me off a little bit. There are no numbers to take back to your table, and not much info is communicated. The vibe here is very old school, with wood paneling, etc. The staff is very nice. I had heard that this place was crowded, but I was the only when in there when I came in…however it was getting full before I left. Perhaps 6:15 on a Thursday is the time to go. Score:7
EXTRAS/FRESHNESS/ETC – These are simply the biggest and best fries that I have ever had. I’m not sure how they cook the fries, but when I saw the size of them, I was expecting something soggy, and possibly underdone in the middle. What I got was potatoed perfection. Crispy on the outside, warm and fluffy on the inside. Score:5
SERVICE – I did get a “no soup for you” sort of vibe when I walked in…but I think that is my own doing, the staff was actually very nice. Score:3
