Welcome to my quest to find the best burger in Silicon Valley (and other random places that I may visit along the way). As a fan of a great burger, I decided it is my duty and responsibility to pass on my burger consuming knowledge to the general public.
If you have a great burger joint that you’d like to recommend, I always appreciate hearing about a great place. Please don’t get upset if I don’t rate your favorite place immediately…there are a lot of place to talk about on this quest, and I hope to get to all of them (before angioplasty gets to me).
Is it fair to rate a burger joint based on one visit? Probably not, but it’s the best system that I’ve got..since I can’t eat EVERYTHING on the menu at EVERY place.
What makes me qualified to do this? Aside from 30-plus years of eating, cooking and enjoying burgers, and the couple years in high school that I spent flipping burgers, what sets me apart from the average burger eater is PASSION. Sorry Taco Bell, but thinking outside the bun is not my way of thinking.
The rating system:
Taste (60% of the score): fresh quality meat? a good bun? good cheese/veggies/bacon/etc? how do all of the flavors marry together?
Selection (10% of the score): is their only one burger on the menu? are their only burgers? what about beers? soda? something for the kids? can I customize my burger? can I get something besides fries?
Creativity and the X-factor (10% of the score): a BBQ bacon cheeseburger with an onion ring on it is good, but every place has one of those nowadays. If I knew what the x-factor was, it would have a different name.
Restaurant (10% of the score): Is it a dive? can I bring the kids? is it overpriced?
Quality of extras and overall freshness (5% of the score): how is the bun? what about the fries?
Service (5% of the score): this won’t make or break anyone’s score, but it’s nice to keep an eye on.
Roughly that adds up to 100-and-some-odd percent.
Please check back, as I will be posting ratings of local places VERY soon (I’ve got about a dozen to post, and more on the way!)
